I. Background on ACTED
Since 1993, as an international non-governmental organization, ACTED has been committed to immediate humanitarian relief to support those in urgent need and protect people’s dignity, while co-creating longer-term opportunities for sustainable growth and fulfilling people is potential.
ACTED endeavors to respond to humanitarian crises and build resilience; promote inclusive and sustainable growth; co-construct effective governance and support the building of civil society worldwide by investing in people and their potential.
We go the last kilometer: ACTED’s mission is to save lives and support people in meeting their needs in hard to reach areas. ACTED develops and implements programs that target the most vulnerable amongst populations that have suffered from conflict, natural disaster, or socio-economic hardship. ACTED’s approach looks beyond the immediate emergency towards opportunities for longer term livelihoods reconstruction and sustainable development.
With a budget of 164 million EUR in 2014, ACTED is active in 35 countries and implements more than 450 projects a year reaching over 8 million beneficiaries with 400 international staff and 4,300 national staff.
II. Country Profile
ACTED launched its operations in the Philippines in 2012, in the immediate aftermath of Typhoon Pablo. ACTED’s response was focused on 3 municipalities in Davao Oriental Province, Mindanao where ACTED supported Typhoon-affected households with Cash for Work activities which involved the rehabilitation of agricultural land allowing for the recovery of livelihood activities.
Interventions in 2013 were focused on providing immediate disaster relief to Typhoon Haiyan affected populations in the Eastern Visayas region. ACTED’s response to Haiyan, the strongest typhoon to ever make landfall, was rapid with ACTED teams on the ground just two days after the typhoon. ACTED was one of the first NGOs operational in Guiuan, Eastern Samar and contributed to the first Multi-Sector Initial Rapid Assessment (MIRA) assessment, which was crucial in mapping needs during the initial emergency.
By the end of 2013, ACTED had finished its emergency shelter, water and food distribution. ACTED’s current projects focus on longer-term development activities and have evolved with the needs of communities in the Eastern Visayas region. ACTED is supporting a sustainable reduction in communities’ vulnerability to disaster impact and an increase in resilience through a coordinated DRM approach – improving community access to water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), resilient shelter and supporting the restoration of livelihoods by training farmers in diversified livelihood skills and facilitating linkages to markets to boost household incomes. ACTED also maintains an emergency response capacity in country.
In response to the emergency and rehabilitation situation in Philippines, ACTED recruits.
