Job Description & Requirements
The Deputy Project Manager under the authority of the Project Manager will support the implementation and management of the project, with a main focus on supporting field activities (direct management of Field Facilitators) and liaising with communities and local authorities.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist the Project Manager in implementation of a planning/review & reporting system;
- Support the application of all technical standards, guidelines and methodologies developed;
- Continuously monitor, track & report on the implementation of project activities at field level;
- Ensure the relevancy of project activities and propose any changes to the Project Manager;
- Support the preparation of accurate and timely progress reports and other project documentation;
- Manage the field staff to ensure compliance, technical quality and coherence in all project activities;
- Prepare and ensure the implementation of work plans for field facilitators;
- Provide day-to-day guidance and supervisory support to field staff (spending 70% of the time in the field);
- Contribute to systematic capacity development of the field staff and national partner NGO;
- Coordinate and support data collection in the field;
- Establish and maintain relationships with all key stakeholders (community, community leaders, local partners, local authorities) and ensure their participation and involvement in project implementation;
- Establish responsible partnerships and negotiate effective solutions, partnerships, agreements;
- Facilitate links between relevant government, community groups, farmer groups, lead farmers, private sector, to ensure a coordinated approach to project implementation;
- ensure representation of PIN and the project regarding the implementation of the project strategy and approach at donors’ meetings, coordination meetings;
- participate in the implementation of the project’s communication and visibility plan;
- support information, best practices and lessons learned being properly documented, stored and promoted.
Qualifications Required
- A graduate degree in Rural Development, Agriculture, Economics, Social Sciences or any related field;
- Previous work experience with NGOs and managing teams in a rural context;
- Minimum 2-3 years’ experience working in emergency or development projects, incl. working with private sector;
- Demonstrated experience managing team in rural context, capacity development and liaising with communities and local authorities;
- Experience with market assessments/value chain development/agro-business/market systems is advantage;
- Demonstrated flexibility, creativity and enthusiasm as well as a willingness to learn and to adapt within a dynamic and often self-directed working environment;
- Proficiency in English and computer literacy;
- Knowledge of the geographical area and local language is an advantage;
- Must be able to start work immediately.
